Hermosa Beach recognized June as Pride month by raising a rainbow flag at City Hall this week.
Hermosa Beach will also light up Pier Plaza in rainbow colors throughout the month of June to show that βlove is loveβ and the celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, according to Hermosa Beach Councilmember Mike Detoy.
βWeβre excited to see the city kind of grow and put their arms around what this month means,β said Detoy, who was joined by the entire Hermosa Beach City Council, city staff and LGBTQ+ allies during the Monday, June 2, event.

Pride month will also be celebrated with the fifth annual Hermosa Beach Pride, which will take place June 11 to 15 with multiple events, including a parade on The Strand and photo taken at the rainbow-painted Pride lifeguard tower at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14.
βPride, itβs a protest, itβs a celebration, but itβs also visibility,β said Hermosa Beach Pride President Millie Martinez Stordeur. βI think when you see the rainbow flag, itβs a signal to those who donβt always have the luxury of safety for being who they are, to let them know that they are accepted and they are safe here in Hermosa Beach.β
